Learning to Walk Again

These are the days I live for…

The sun shined. It shined through the words on the page, the work I accomplished and the time spent with family. Its brightness peaked as I started walking again albeit with crutches.

It’s amazing how a few little steps can lighten the spirit.

I didn’t believe everyone that said the recovery for ACL reconstruction was slow. Well, at least not how slow it actually is. Today is the two-week mark from surgery and besides some very simple (yet very challenging) physical therapy exercises I’ve barely moved. For someone like me who is inspired by movement, it’s been a lesson in patience, in slowing down and asking for help.

It starts to play with your mind. I questioned when my leg would start to move without assistance. The answers are slow but they’re there.

Right now, I’m just grateful for the first step. The lessons will continue tomorrow.
